Here at Bailey Mind and Body Connection, we believe in building a team that is passionate, professional, creative, and dynamic. We are committed to providing patients with the tools to achieve their mental health goals. Here are our experts!
Lori A Bailey, PhD, PMHNP, CNE
Lori spent a large part of her career working in ICU settings and travelling the country teaching critical care review courses to others seeking certification. In addition to her bedside practice, Lori was fortunate to have opportunities to teach in several nursing programs. Her most recent endeavor involved creating and launching a new PMHNP program. She is an expert educator for both her colleagues and her patients.
In ICUs, Lori saw the impact that mental illness had on outcomes for patients with many serious illnesses and decided to pursue education to become a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and started her practice in 2020. Initally, she joined a practice including several fantastic therapists in Colorado Springs. She moved to Denver in 2021 and started Bailey Mind & Body Connection, LLC.
The dream for the business comes from Lori's belief that the brain is attached to the body! You need 2 things to get the best outcomes for patients with mental illness; you need to consider the entire person including physical health, mental health, spirituality, environment, and social factors; and, you need to engage a team. Communication with the patient and the rest of the patient's team is essential in order to ensure that all of the patient's needs are being addressed in a timely manner.
Lori practices using the following acronym to guide her practice:
M-Medications, as needed (sometimes, they are not the right choice)
E-Exercise/physical activity; their impact on mental health can be a game-changer
N-Nutrition; what we eat affects our whole body including our brains and our mood
D-Dhyana; mindfulness contemplation and self reflection-studies show actual changes in the brain with practice
S-Sleep; sleep is the body's opportunity to rest and repair. Lack of sleep makes everything feel less well.
Lori recommends that all patients engage in appropriate therapy. While medications can help with brain chemistry, the habits of mind that occur with mental illness require someone who can help to build new pathways. She is building a referral network of powerful allies to help patients to maximize mental health and well-being.
